Public consultation – Updating the Guidelines for the 5+1 internship program

The Psychology Board of Australia is consulting on updating the Guidelines for the 5+1 internship program.

The current Guidelines for the 5+1 internship program have been in effect since 2013 and are therefore due for review. The purpose of revising these guidelines is to conduct a full review of the internship requirements and administrative rules to:

  • Better align the internship program requirements with the contemporary regulatory context
  • Reduce the regulatory burden and complexity of the internship program, and
  • Generally update and refresh the exam guidelines to improve readability.

We invite practitioners, members of the community, employers and other stakeholders to give feedback on our proposal. We are particularly keen to hear from people who are involved in the 5+1 internship, such as provisional psychologists and their supervisors.

Released: Wednesday 7 May 2025
Closes: Wednesday 2 July 2025
